Align the roof decision with long-term operation
If waterproofing needs renewal soon, address it before fitting modules. Later renovation may otherwise require dismantling, storage and reinstallation as well as roofing work. Assess roof condition without treating the preferred solar layout as fixed.
A tidy surface is not a documented assessment of concealed layers. Existing drawings, repair history and appropriate investigation help the roofing specialist establish the condition.
Phase 1: agree the baseline
Map roof zones, drainage, rooflights, compartments, access and the existing build-up. Structural assessment needs reliable information about the structure and proposed loads. RVO identifies existing drawings, a precise array plan and information about supporting frames and ballast. [2]
Combine the findings in one drawing set. It should reveal a module row obstructing a maintenance point or a cable route conflicting with a roof detail before work starts. Date and number revisions.
Phase 2: decide the roof assembly
For renewed waterproofing, install SHEET on insulation before the new membrane. Within our portfolio, SHEET is the mineral board intended for that position. Agree the assembly with the roofing trade before procurement.
Where the membrane remains, WEER and VLOEI provide alternatives above it. Neither route bypasses necessary repairs identified by the condition assessment. Let the required work determine the sequence.
Phase 3: coordinate logistics and weather exposure
Define delivery routes and suitable temporary storage zones. Pallets and rolls introduce temporary loads too; unused roof space is not automatically a storage area. Agree who hands over each section and when the next contractor can enter.
Plan daily work areas so exposed construction can be protected in time. Include the chosen installation method, weather conditions and access requirements for the following trade.
Phase 4: hand over the roof before installing PV
Inspect and record drains, penetrations and connections while they remain accessible. Locate photographs on a drawing. The PV installer then follows the coordinated layout and records actual changes in the as-built plan.
VdS 3145 places installation and operation in a common planning context. A clear handover helps turn that principle into a usable site process. [1]
Phase 5: leave a usable maintenance file
Collect documents for the waterproofing, mineral layer and PV system. Identify who checks drainage, investigates electrical issues and restores details after later interventions. For a VlamShield enquiry, share renovation scope, roof section, area plan and programme. This lets material selection follow the construction sequence.
Joint planning reduces work at the interfaces. Make roof handover a defined milestone before PV installation starts.
