Bring the inspector into the planning process
Ordering modules before discussing inspection can leave awkward work at handover. Cable routes may become inaccessible and missing drawings have to be reconstructed. Agree the required documents, access and responsibilities with the owner, installer and inspection company early.
SCIOS identifies Scope 12 as the inspection category for solar electricity installations. It is a Dutch framework, not a certification for an individual roof protection product. [1]
Understand the boundary between installation and roof assessment
The inspection concerns the PV installation and its execution, including items such as cables, connections and inverters. Interpolis also lists a check that an approved structural calculation exists for the installation concerned. Record the requirements and deadlines of the actual insurer in the project file. [2]
The remaining service life of the membrane, local loading on insulation and applicable roof fire performance also need their respective building assessments. Electrical compliance alone does not settle those questions.
Choose the protective layer for its position
SHEET sits on insulation beneath a new membrane. WEER is installed above retained waterproofing beneath PV; VLOEI forms a mineral coating above the existing membrane. Whether the roof is being renewed and whether the work area is accessible are therefore early decisions.
Installing a mineral layer does not automatically produce a satisfactory Scope 12 inspection. Equally, an inspection report is not a universal approval for arbitrary roof assemblies. Keep product information, assembly evidence and installation inspection identifiable within one coordinated file. Our documentation guide explains the distinction.
Use one coordinated drawing set
Give the module layout, roof details and electrical plans a common revision reference. Identify arrays, inverters, cable routes, penetrations, drainage and access. Add the actual roof section and structural assessment including ballast.
RVO identifies existing drawings, an accurate layout and information about weights and loads as inputs to roof capacity assessment. A generic description of a standard PV system does not show the actual arrangement. [3]
Close the gaps at handover
The roofing contractor records details while they remain accessible. The installer adds the as-built array and cable arrangement. Inspection findings are then allocated to a responsible party with a completion date and evidence of corrective work.
Allow time for this process. Completing installation is not the same as closing every finding. Label photographs with their locations on the plan so the next maintenance team can use them.
Send the information needed for material selection
Share the roof section, photographs, planned PV area and whether waterproofing will be renewed. Include available insurer and inspector requirements. VlamShield can then discuss the protective layer and product documents alongside the proposed installation sequence.
Inspection readiness depends on the installation and its records. Select the mineral layer as a coordinated part of that roof assembly.
